LANGLEY, BC – April 14, 2024 – Vancouver FC vs. Valour FC
Weather: Sunny 16 degrees
Attendance: 4,038

Vancouver FC opened their sophomore season in fine fashion defeating Valour FC handily by a score of 4–1 before 4,038 fans at Willoughby Community Park in Langley.

While the game started cautiously, Vancouver FC took the early initiative with several long through balls down the right flank which led to some early opportunities.

Valour FC opened the scoring in the 24th minute, with Jordan Swibel heading home a cross from the left wing against the run of the play. The goal appeared to ignite Vancouver FC, as they almost equalized in the 33rd minute on a free kick from 22 meters that squirted under the wall and lead to a frantic scramble in front of the Valour goal before it was cleared by the defenders.

Just before half time in the 45th minute, Vancouver FC equalized on a goal by New Zealander Moses Dyer for his first goal as a member of Vancouver FC against his former club.

At the start of the second half, Vancouver FC came out attacking with Paris Gee giving Vancouver FC the lead with a curling 23 meter shot past the diving Valour goalkeeper.

Vancouver FC continued to press, and in the 53rd minute, Gabriel Bitar converted a low cross from Burnaby’s Paris Gee, as he placed his shot into the lower right corner of the net.

Midfielder David Norman from Coquitlam made the score 4–1 and sealed the victory 67th minute, volleying home a header back in front of the goal after a corner kick.

Vancouver dominated the offensive stats outshooting their opponents 18 to 9 of which 9 shots were on target compared to Valour’s 3 shots.

Possession was also controlled by Vancouver by a margin of 61% to 39%.

Vancouver FC’s 4-1 victory set club records for most goals in a game and largest margin of victory since joining the league in 2022.

Vancouver’s next game will be on Thursday, April 18th against the HFX Wanderers, who lost their season opener 1-0 against Pacific FC the day before.
